Firehouse evacuated after man shows up with a mortar in the backseat of his car

BOSTON - Fire officials are warning people to leave their old mortars at home after one man shut down an Allston firehouse when he showed up to get rid of an old military mortar.

The incident happened at 11 a.m. at Engine 41 Ladder 14 firehouse with what appeared to be an old military mortar in the backseat of a car. The firehouse was evacuated and set up a safety zone while police responded.

Fire officials recommend never to move or touch any device that could be explosive.
