Firefighters investigating blaze at Methodist Church in Rochester

ROCHESTER - Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street on Tuesday evening.

Firefighters say the fire alarm went off at the church around 5:40 p.m., and crews arrived to find smoke on the first and second floor. The fire was traced to an exterior wall on the first floor, where is was starting to spread to the second-floor sanctuary. Firefighters were able to locate, expose and extinguish the blaze.

Pastor Jeffrey Hunt said Wednesday night he was told by the cleanup crew they could probably be able to hold their 10 a.m. worship service This Sunday morning.

The cause remains under investigation.
