MILFORD - A Main St. home is destroyed after a fire Wednesday morning.
Fire crews from several supporting towns were called to 83 Elm St. just after 9 a.m. Initially firefighters believed someone was trapped in the home but later learned the home was only being used for storage.
"Once we got in, we got in through the doors but we couldn’t get around," said Chief Kelly. The home was cluttered with antiques, books and magazines, Kelly said.
The home was challenging to navigate and because there were so many items inside it was difficult to run hose lines. Firefighters were forced to retreat and tackle the fire from the exterior.
One witness reported seeing smoke and flames from across town.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation but it does not appear to be suspicious, Kelly said.
