LACONIA - An early morning fire at the Titeflex Aerospace building started in an exhaust duct then spread into another machine.

Firefighters said they responded to an alarm at 6:35 a.m. on Friday at 144 Lexington Drive. An employee initially thought the fire had been extinguished. But firefighters who investigated found heavy black smoke and a visible fire about 10 feet off the floor in an area where materials are heat treated at a very high temperature.

Firefighters say employees did attempt to extinguish the fire but realized they needed to evacuate and sound the alarm. Damage to the machine is fairly extensive. Titeflex Aerospace is a Division of Smith Tubular and both companies are located in the Laconia Industrial Park.
