Federal inmate in Berlin gets 9 mo.s added to sentence for sharpening a toothbrush

BERLIN - An federal prison inmate who was found with a toothbrush sharpened into a stabbing weapon had his sentence extended another nine months.

Acting U.S. Attorney Donald Feith said 45-year-old Randy Bragg, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin, was sentenced to the additional time in U.S. District Court in Concord. He was found in possession of the sharpened toothbrush in October of 2014 by correctional officers.

"Prosecutions such as this one should send a clear message that inmates found in possession of weapons can expect to be prosecuted and to serve additional time in prison,” Feith said in a statement. He did not say what Bragg was in prison for.
