Father/son basketball duo major highlight of March Madness
An endearing father/son relationship took the national spotlight last week at the March Madness kickoff and warmed hearts across America in the process.
Georgia State basketball coach Ron Hunter and his son R.J., who plays on his father's team, are a duo worth watching.
There's a reason coach hunter needs a scooter to get around. It all started with winning a thriller in the Sun Belt title game. A championship that was so exciting coach Hunter tore his Achilles tendon in the celebration.
Then in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, R.J. sparked a 13-0 game-winning run against Baylor, scoring three points at the very end of the game. It literally knocked his dad out of his chair. The coach even broke his cast in the fall.
The chain of mishaps spurring an online flood of memes. One showing a new twist on the Life Alert "I've fallen and can't get up" ad. Another shows new protective court-side uniform that would work well for coach.
And the meme above tweeted showing what the coach could have looked like if Georgia had made it to the playoffs. But Georgia state lost to Xavier this weekend and was eliminated from the tournament.
Talking in a post game press conference, coach Hunter couldn't hold back his emotion and pride.
