Father of Jim Foley reacts to news that his son's killer may be dead after drone airstrike

ROCHESTER - The man responsible for killing American hostages in Syria, including journalist James Foley, may have been killed in a drone strike.

The White House is not confirming the death of the militant known as Jihadi John but does say the operation was consistent with other aimed at top ISIS leaders.

Friday, Foley's father, John Foley, said whether Jihadi John is dead or not matters less than the good that his son and other were trying to accomplish in Syria.

"He really believed in the struggle of the Syrian people to obtain their freedom," he said, speaking of his son. "He really admired - I mean the Syrian people are risking their lives to be free. Which of us would do the same?"

The parents of another American journalist killed in Syria, Steven Sotloff, said it was "too little, too late." Sotloff also had New England connections and was a graduate of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H.
