Farmington police say Main Street fire was arson, identify suspect

FARMINGTON - Police say a Farmington man has admitted to setting a car fire that caused an explosion and burned a downtown building.

An investigation that followed the fire allowed police to identify a suspect and interview him. Police credit area businesses and their surveillance video with assisting in the investigation

Police say they'll be charging Conrad N. Parent III, 33, of Elm Street with arson.

The building caught fire after a dark-colored Chevy Camaro exploded on Main Street at approximately 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters said the flames extended to the third floor of the building's exterior. The first floor was empty but the building's second and third floors are home to the Masonic hall.
