Farmington police officers accused of assault during arrest found not guilty

DOVER - Two Farmington police officers accused of assaulting a man during an arrest have been found not guilty.

The three-day trial in Strafford County Superior Court for Sgt. Michael McNeil and Officer Gregory Gough started Tuesday.

The pair were accused of using excessive force during the arrest of Randy Gray, of Milton, in June 2013. The incident was caught on a body camera worn by a Milton police officer. Gray was in cuffs when McNeil grabbed his neck. Prosecutors called it excessive and unnecessary.

Gough was accused of grabbing Gray and spinning his body around. His attorney said his actions were minimal.

The officers have been on unpaid leave since they were indicted back in February.

Whether they can return to the police department will be up to the Board of Selectmen, Police Chief Jay Drury said.

The board usually meets the second and fourth Monday of the month, but because of Christmas, it's unclear whether it will meet Dec. 22. There is no meeting information posted for that date on the town's website at this time.
