FRANCONIA – A NH family is fighting through their loss after a day of training turned into tragedy last January.
Last winter, U.S. Ski Team member Ronnie Berlack died in an avalanche in Austria with teammate Bryce Astle, of Utah.
Now, both families have joined forces to put on a workshop at the Mount Washington Hotel next month to educate people about the dangers of avalanches.
“The idea came about because we were so terrible sad about losing Ronnie, and we felt that there could be education," said Berlacks's mother, Cindy Berlack. "We were looking for ways to help prevent more deaths by avalanches."
The Eastern Snow and Avalanche Workshop and the Berlack and Astle families are hosting the workshop on Nov. 7.
All winter sport enthusiasts are invited to the seminar and dinner, which will also cover the avalanche safety, risk mitigation and recent snow research.
For more information of the program's agenda, speakers, updates or to register for the seminar, visit the website.
NH1 News will have more information at 10 p.m. on WBIN - TV.
