The homeowner - Richard R. Verville, 71 - shot and killed himself after the murder.

"I can only pray to god that this guy didn't shoot him leave him there to die, and then go in the other room and cowardly kill himself while my husband suffered," Carole said.

Dan is remembered by his family as a hardworking, loving man who would help others, and who always put his family first.

Recent years haven't been easy for their family. Dan was downsized from a big company and lost his benefits, including his retirement account, life and health insurance. With Dan now gone, is family is now facing an even greater financial struggle.

Carole Rabideau is living just one day at a time now, balancing the emotional and financial struggles.

"Who would do that to him? You have to know him. Who would do that to him? He's just not that kind of provocative kind of guy?" she asked.

Carole said she has been on the phone with her mortgage company over the last few days, trying to save her home.

Her daughter, Kim Mattucci, has set up a GoFundMe page to help her mother.
