Family of 4 safely evacuates Derry home after 'heavy fire' in attached garage

DERRY - A family of four is safe after a fire engulfed an attached garage on their home.

Derry Fire Department received a call of a fire in the garage at 23 Hubbard Hill Road in Derry early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters found a heavy fire in the attached garage and called for additional aid. Crews were able to contain the fire before it could extend into the main house.

A family of four that lives in the house self-evacuated when they became aware of the fire - along with their pet dog.

The garage sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage, according to officials. All the contents in the garage - including two cars - are suspected to be a complete loss. The main house and the breezeway sustained moderate smoke damage.

No injuries were reported. The fire is expected to be accident, but investigations will ensue in order to determine the exact cause of the fire.
