Family and friends gather to remember Amherst murder victim

AMHERST - A memorial service for Elizabeth Davis Trombly was held at the Congregational Church - United Church of Christ in Amherst on Sunday afternoon.

Many friends and family came together to sing songs of praise and listen to readings recalling the spirit of the late 69-year-old.

Trombly was killed in her home just a few miles away by her son, John Trombly, earlier this month. Police say John committed suicide after shooting his mother.

Authorities said Trombly's son used an AK-47 assault rifle in the murder/suicide - shooting his mother multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
