Exeter's acting police chief BIll Shupe named to permanent post

EXETER — Officials say Exeter's acting police chief has been given the permanent position.
The Portsmouth Herald reports Town Manager Russ Dean said Wednesday that Bill Shupe will take the permanent position as chief because he has shown that he's qualified for the job.
Shupe was named interim chief in January after Richard Kane retired. Since then, he has held several events to interact with the community and hear their concerns. He has also announced a citizens police academy designed to bring the department and community together.
Dean has also lauded Shupe's decision to hire a problem-oriented police officer to work on community issues.
Shupe will be officially sworn in on Monday.
