Exeter High School senior killed in accident involving Hudson driver

ATKINSON — A 17-year-old girl senior from Exeter High School died after her car was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by a Hudson woman on Wednesday. Police say a car driven by Emma Jacobs of East Kingston was hit by an SUV on Route 111 around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday in Atkinson. Jacobs pulled onto Route 111 from Hall Farm Road and was struck by the Explorer traveling on Route 111 eastbound, police said. Jacobs was killed in the crash and her passenger was taken to Exeter hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV, 37-year-old Melissa Muzrall of Hudson, was taken to Exeter hospital to be checked by doctors. The Portsmouth Herald reported that Jacobs survived critical injuries in an accident four years ago when she was struck by a car while riding in front of her house on a skateboard-type device. SAU 16 Superintendent Michael Morgan issued a phone alert to the school community Wednesday night confirming the death. Morgan said support would be available for students and staff as they grieve, the Portsmouth Herald reported. A high school lacrosse player, Jacobs’ death comes nearly four months after she and others in the school community mourned the loss of Brentwood police officer Stephen Arkell, who was an assistant coach for the girls’ lacrosse team.
