DOVER - The daughter of Kathy Lavoie, a murder victim in Tuesday's early morning murder-suicide according to the AG's office, is speaking out on her step-father's actions - calling them acts of "courage" and "love."
Tara Ricker spoke to NH1 News on Wednesday evening after autopsy results were returned from the Chief Medical Examiner's Office confirming the identities of her step-father and mother as the two individuals involved in Tuesday's murder-suicide at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.
"I've seen posts about him being a coward or that maybe it was a violent crime. But that wasn't - I mean - he knew exactly what she wanted and unfortunately she was in a really bad place and there wasn't anything anyone could've done," Ricker said. "And he knew that she really wanted to go and he felt incredibly guilty for not letting her do that on her own terms. And he just wanted to make it right for her."
Ricker said her step-father's decision wasn't an act of violence - but rather an act of love and mercy.
"It was incredibly courageous of him to do what he did, in my mind, because none of us could've done that. And to go with her - that's a big statement on his love for her," Ricker said.
Mark Lavoie posted what appeared to be intentions that insinuated he was going to kill his wife on his Facebook page in a 'goodbye' note. However, Ricker said many have judged his choice unfairly.
"To clarify, to any of the people who have said some crazy things and some terribly negative things about him - those are all wrong," said Ricker. "He was the kindest man I have ever known, and he loved my mom more than anyone could've ever loved her. He was everything she ever wanted. And they have peace together now and that's all she ever wanted."
