NORTH HAVERHILL - A former New Hampshire day care owner who was convicted in connection with the death of a 4-year-old girl left under her supervision has been sentenced to four months in jail.
A jury in November found Mary Ellen Burritt guilty of multiple counts of operating an unlicensed day care out her home and reckless conduct.
Police said Willa Clark was found hanging by her coat in March 2014 in the backyard of Burritt's home day care in Enfield. She was pronounced dead two days later at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Prosecutors said Burritt recklessly put children in danger by allowing the youngsters to play alone without an adult present.
The Valley News reports a judge ordered Burritt to pay $105,300 in restitution to cover medical bills and funeral expenses for Clark.
