Eversource cutting roadside trees in NH weakened by drought

Trees across the state are suffering from the ongoing drought and many are being cut as a precaution.

Eversource is upping its tree cutting operation this summer in an attempt to minimize problems this winter, according to the Union Leader.

Trees, especially those near roadways suffer during times of low precipitation. The sandy soil doesn't hold water as well as that of more forested areas.

Eversource has cut down 14,450 trees this year, up from 11,695 that were cut in 2015.

This is to avoid the weakened trees falling on wires and in roadways as winter storms return in the upcoming months.
