MANCHESTER - An escaped inmate wasn't on the loose for long thanks to the public.
A citizen flagged down an officer on Elm Street and pointed to a male wearing the orange jumpsuit worn by inmates at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections.
The inmate - identified as Kevin Gearhart, 50 - fled to a wooded area behind Prime Gas.
Officers caught Gearhart and returned to jail.
Police said Gearhart tried to steal a vehicle being dropped off for service, and then one parked at a gas pump, but was scared off by civilians in both cases.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
