Enhanced security coming to the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester

MANCHESTER - Heading to a game or show at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester?

Very soon you'll see increased security when you get there.

“We don't want anything to happen in Manchester or anywhere else that we have a property,” said Jason Perry, Director of Sales and Marketing.

SMG manages the Verizon, they'll be enhancing security at all of their venues. The biggest change patrons will notice happens right when you walk through the front door.

Twelve standing metal detectors will be placed at all of the front entrance ways. Much like at the airport, people will have to empty their pockets and walk through, but they will be allowed to leave their shoes and jackets on. Security may use wands or pat anyone down who sets the detectors off.

No bags larger than 14-by-16 inches or backpacks will be allowed, or weapons of any kind.

“We just want to make sure we're ahead of the wave especially with everything that happens around the world these days. Truth be told, we are having large gatherings at our venues so let's make sure we keep the targets away,” Perry said.

There have been no credible threats to the Verizon or any of SMG's facilities.

The metal detectors will be in place at the Verizon starting Saturday Feb. 14 for the Monarchs game.
