Ed O'Bannon to appear at UNH Law for first public discussion of NCAA lawsuit

CONCORD — The University of New Hampshire School of Law will host Ed O'Bannon to speak publicly for the first time about his historic lawsuit against the NCAA during a symposium on Nov. 17 at 4:30 p.m.

O'Bannon's case ended on Oct. 3, 2016 when the U.S. Supreme Court denied petitions for writ of certiorari (an order for judicial review of a decision by a lower court) made by O'Bannon and the NCAA. This denial meant that O'Bannon's 2015 victory before a three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals would stand.

The case was about the monetary rights of college athletes to the commercial use of their names and likenesses. The decision resulted in settlements paid to athletes.

Following the event, entitled, “O’Bannon Takes a Stand: Amateurism & the Case Against the NCAA,” a panel of top experts will discuss the case, the ruling, and implications.

The event will have its own hashtag: #UNHLawOBannon, for those who would like to follow along online.
