Dying 9-year-old Rochester girl is getting to meet Justin Bieber after all
ROCHESTER - A dying 9-year-old girl is on her way meet pop star Justin Bieber.
After NH1 News reported that Karlee Drew's wish to meet the Biebs wasn't going to be possible, the pop star and Make-A-Wish reached out to the family.
Karlee is getting to meet her hero tonight at a concert in Boston.
"Justin is a long-standing, committed and generous wish granter," the foundation said. "His support for the Make-A-Wish mission remains strong as he continues to grant wishes. Justin’s dedication is evidenced by the fact that he has granted a wish in almost every city during his current tour. He will grant two more wishes tonight in Boston, including Karlee’s wish.
The hashtag #KarleesHomeTeam helped the movement and is gaining steam in an effort to support her with her battle.
Family friend Melena Lugo confirmed that Karlee is going, and everyone involved is extremely excited.
Karlee was 7 when she was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis and MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome). Myelofibrosis is a serious bone marrow disorder that disrupts the body’s production of blood cells. She underwent chemotherapy and had her first bone marrow transplant in February 2015 and was in remission. But in late 2015, Karlee started feel sick again and it was determined she had a relapse and her condition was worse. The disease developed into Acute Myeloid Leukemia. It mean more chemo and a second bone marrow transplant in 2016.
Karlee is now fighting Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD) of the liver, skin, mouth, eyes and quite possibly the stomach. This was caused by a reaction to the latest bone marrow transplant.
She was released from Children's Hospital on Friday and now gets the transfusions every other day, Lugo said.
