During search for drowning victim, Fish and Game officers rescue injured hiker
KEENE — Conservation Officers searching for a drowning victim on the Connecticut River ended up rescuing an injured hiker on Mount Monadnock.
With limited volunteers, Monadnock State Park Personnel requested assistance with a carry out.
MacKenzie Martin, 22, of Columbus, Ohio, was descending the White Cross trail when she injured her lower leg after slipping on a muddy slope and landing awkwardly. She was unable to walk and called park headquarters for assistance. Once first aid was administered on the mountain, Martin was carried out by a litter.
With the recent rain, many trails are saturated and footing can be difficult. New Hampshire Fish and Game reminds hikers to take their time and watch their step to hike safe.
