Durham lawmaker wants to ban guns in NH schools during voting
DURHAM — A Durham lawmaker wants to ban guns from election polling sites at schools, even though New Hampshire is an open-carry state.
With more than 100 schools used on Election Day in the Granite State, State Rep. Wayne Burton wants to create a state law that places restrictions on guns at school polling places, the Union Leader reported.
Burton said he is concerned for the safety of the students and voters.
The Attorney General's Office said that the state has no authority to enforce the federal Gun Free School Zones Act.
