Drug cops raid 81-year-old woman's singular marijuana plant
AMHERST, Mass.— An 81-year-old woman grew a single marijuana plant in her garden, in the midst of her raspberries plants. She used the marijuana to ease the affects of old age, like arthritis and occasional sleepless nights.
Margaret Holcomb hadn't tried to get a medical marijuana card, because of the challenges of getting a doctor's approval, and the costly efforts, she told the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
On the afternoon of Sept. 21, a team of Massachusetts State Police and Massachusetts National Guard troops sent a helicopter, several vehicles, and troopers to Holcomb's house to chop down the plant and haul it away in a pickup truck, according to the Washington Post.
There were others targeted in this marijuana raid too. A state police told the paper that 43 other plants were also seized that day.
One of the largest busts included 20 plants on one property. None of the property owners were charged with crimes though.
