Driver hits tree, shuts down Everett Turnpike during rush hour

MERRIMACK - A Nashua man was seriously injured after his car hit a tree, leading state police to stop traffic in both directions of the Everett Turnpike for part of the evening rush hour on Friday

Thomas Gaudette, 55, had to be extricated from a severely damaged Toyota Camry. He was treated at the scene by Merrimack fire personnel and then flown to Tufts Medical Center in Boston for serious injuries, police said.

As a result of the collision and subsequent investigation, traffic was limited to mostly one-lane travel. The Everett was completely shut down in both directions for approximately 30 minutes.

State police say their preliminary investigation does not appear to show impairment was involved. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Trooper Bryan Plamondon by telephone at 603-223-4381 or by email at bryan.plamondon@dos.nh.gov.
