Driver collides with garage, starts fire that damages home in Strafford

STRAFFORD - A home at 12 Deer Lane was heavily damaged by fire Saturday night after the homeowner crashed her car in the garage, triggering the blaze.

Fire Chief Scott Whitehouse said it appears the driver hit the gas instead of the brakes as she was pulling into the garage in a Subaru Forester.

Firefighters were called to the home around 7:20 p.m. Everyone in the house got out safely though a cat died in the blaze. Whitehouse says the home may be a total loss. The fire remains under investigation, he said.
