Driver charged with DWI, stopped going wrong way on highway; 3rd incident this week

SALEM - In the third incident in just four days, state police have arrested a driver they say was driving the wrong way on a major state highway.

Police say they received several reports of a car heading the wrong way on Interstate 93 around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday.

State police caught up with the vehicle heading south in the northbound lane and successfully stopped the car north of Exit 2.

Police identified the driver as Andy Mazzara, 22, of Lawrence, Mass. He was charged with reckless conduct, driving while intoxicated, disobeying an officer and using a mobile device while driving.

Two passengers in the car, Abel Rodriguez and Luis Leonard, also of Lawrence, were taken into protective custody.

Mazzara is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 14.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Trooper A.J. Marciano at 223-4381.

On Saturday a Concord man was stopped going the wrong way on I-89 and on Thursday, it was a woman on the Everett Turnpike.
