Dover senior Ryan McKenna has eyes set on MLB
As the school year winds down, most high school seniors are finishing up their last few projects and are preparing to begin college next fall. However, Ryan McKenna is not like most seniors. While his peers are choosing between which school to attend, McKenna is focused solely on improving his draft stock in the upcoming Major League Baseball Draft.
Locally, McKenna has garnered attention for his play since he was very young, but it wasn't until last year that his dream of being a professional baseball player became a possibility. McKenna was invited to play on the New York Yankee's Area Code team, which gave him the exposure that he couldn't get while playing in New Hampshire.
The senior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover has already committed to play Division I baseball at Liberty University, but he hopes to accomplish even bigger goals. Since returning home from the Area Code Tournament in Long Beach, California, McKenna has visited with nearly a dozen scouts and is projected to go as high as the second round in the MLB Draft, which begins on June 8th.
