Dover's historic Strand Theatre to reopen as a performing arts center

DOVER - The historic Strand Theatre on Third Street, originally established in 1919, has recently reopened as a performing arts venue after being closed down for seven years.

According to seacoastonline.com, 2009 was the last year the Strand functioned as a movie theatre, and instead of being known as Strand Theatre will now be known as the Strand Ballroom.

Dan Demers, of Greenland, who is contracted to purchase the Strand, told Seacoast that he'd like to make the old theatre into a place where people can come and express themselves in the arts.

Demers is hoping to have the main ballroom dance floor fully completed by March 1, and has a scheduled grand opening for Sept. 22, 2019 - the building's 100th anniversary.
