DOVER - Police charged a Durham man with DWI after the car he was driving collided with a backhoe.

Andrew Grandy, 42, had been driving on Central Avenue near the intersection of Back River Road and Durham Road early Friday morning when the accident happened, police said.

The driver of the backhoe, owned by the city, had been removing snow in the area at the time.

Grandy's vehicle sustained significant damage and the backhoe sustained minor damage, police said.

The driver of the backhoe was taken to Wentworth Douglass Hospital with minor injuries and was later released, police said.

Grandy was released on $1,000 personal recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Dover district court March 23.
