Dover man appeals denied backyard helicopter pad request

The Associated Press

DOVER — A local man has filed an appeal after his request to build a backyard helicopter pad was denied last month.

Foster's Daily Democrat reports Karl Leinsing wants the Dover zoning board to reconsider its unanimous March 19 vote denying his variance request. The 48-year-old hopes to get approval to operate his helicopter from his Spur Road property about a dozen times a year.

Leinsing's house falls within a zone that allows helicopter takeoffs and landings only when the nearest residential structure is 1,000 feet away. The nearest home to Leinsing is only a couple hundred feet away.

Leinsing says occasional takeoffs and landings will not affect his neighbor's property values. He claims helicopters are about as loud as a lawnmower.
