SAN FRANCISCO (AP) The two teams duking it out for supremacy of the National League West open a weekend series tonight in San Francisco. When the game begins the Giants will be two games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers.
NEW YORK (AP) Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis has been suspended by Major League Baseball for 25 games after testing positive for an amphetamine. The AL East-leading Orioles have 17 games left in the regular season so the suspension would include eight potential playoff games.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) In ranked college football tonight No. 8 Baylor is in Buffalo to play the Bulls of the Mid-American Conference. Baylor is 2-0 on the season while Buffalo is 1-1. A year ago the Bulls were blitzed by the Bears 70-13.
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) Qualifying for the first Chase for the Sprint Cup championship race is tonight in Joliet, Illinois. This is the first of 10 races for the remaining drivers eligible. Seeding is based on the number of season victories and Brad Keselowski has a three-point lead over three-time winners Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson and Joey Logano.
EVIAN-LES-BAINES, France (AP) The final major of the year in women's golf is taking place this week in France. It's the Evian (ay-vee-AWN') Championship and after two rounds the leader is Brittany Lincicome (LIHN'-sih-kohm) of the U.S. She stands 10-under par after 36 holes, one shot in front of Hyo Joo Kim, the South Korean teenager who set a record for lowest score in an LPGA major with a 10-under 61 in the opening round. She followed up today with a 1-over-72.
