DeSmith suspended from UNH hockey team, but players move on

NH1 News

DURHAM - The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team is beginning its season without its starting goalie.

Casey DeSmith was arrested earlier this month after an alleged domestic violence incident happened over move-in weekend. Now, Coach Dick Umile has announced that DeSmith has been suspended from the team indefinitely. Team members said they couldn't prepare for this, but they're not worried moving forward.

"Even though that unfortunate event had to happen, we were already in the process of becoming a team and getting closer and obviously something like that is way to bring a team together, [though] not the way we would have liked," said UNH hockey Captain, Casey Thrush.

The team starts its regular season on October 4th.
