Derry Town Council delays decision on budget petitions

DERRY - A Derry town meeting ended in confusion.

Motions were voted on as the public yelled out, disagreeing with some of the councilors.

At one point, the chairman asks those responsible for the outbursts to leave.

The special meeting was called to take action on eight petitions, the council would either have to reverse their recent budget vote, or send it to a special election and let the public decide.

Four councilors agree they need more time to meet with the law firm who already approved the petitions.

“This is too important of a question to not have all of the facts and all of the information before we vote on it,” said Chairman Thomas Cardon.

The meeting with the attorney's will be private, which is upsetting many tax-payers as they're the ones who paid the ten thousand dollars for the lawyers in the first place.

The private meeting is scheduled for July 28.
