Derry Red Star Twirlers heading to Miss America "Show Us Your Shoes" parade

DERRY - The Red Star Twirlers will be leading Miss New Hampshire, Holly Blanchard, during the "Show Us Your Shoes" parade Saturday in New Jersey.

The parade is a popular event, where contestants sit on the backs of convertibles, and display pumps showing off their personality.

"This is probably the most fun parade that anyone could ever go to," Red Star Founder Gina Hutchinson said. "This group of girls that I am taking this weekend, none of them have ever been in a Miss America parade before, and they are in for a huge treat, because it is 50 people deep for two-and-a-half glorious miles."

Chloe Desjardins, a sophomore at Salem High School, is travelling with the team. She hopes to continue her twirling after high school.

"I would love to twirl in college. Being a feature twirler is a long-term dream of mine," Desjardins said.

Assistant coach Ashley Tiller marched in the parade during her sophomore and senior year of high school, when she twirled for the Red Stars. She is looking forward to passing that experience along.

"It's great to be able to go back now as an assistant coach, and have these kids have the same opportunities that I had, and be able to feel the excitement of being part of this incredible parade," Tiller said.

Blanchard is a twirler herself, and studied with Hutchinson when she was young.

You can follow Blanchard's experience on Miss New Hampshire's Facebook page.
