Derry police say other residents are reporting sick fox sightings
DERRY - After a rabid fox attacked a girl and her father at O'Hara Field, residents have reported other sightings of foxes in the area of Humphrey Park.
The rabid fox was shot and killed, but a concern about the possible spread of rabies to other animals in the area remains.
Police are asking residents to be careful and contact police if they spot a sick or aggressive animal.
Police say the new sightings of a fox over the last 24 hours included Magnolia Lane, Frost Road and Pinehurst Aveny, with the animal described as looking sick but not aggressive.
Town officials had previously alerted area sports leagues that may be using the ball fields to be wary and police are reissuing that alert in light of the recent fox sightings, they said.
