Derry officer shooting incident details

DERRY - Scobie Pond Road is often traveled road to avoid lights and traffic. The Attorney General's office as well as state and local police have blocked off the road for most of the day due to an ongoing investigation.

At approximately 8:02 this morning 9-1-1 dispatch in Derry was called to the scene at Scobie Pond Road. Officers found a man parked in his truck and when they attempted to approach the vehicle, shots were fired.

Officers said the man's wife warned officers of her husband when he stormed out of the house. She described him as "distraught", that he had a gun and was suicidal. The officer on scene returned fire and the suspect suffered from one single gunshot wound.

He was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The identity of the man has not yet been released. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, meanwhile crews remain on the scene.
