Derry mom, toddler talk about coming face-to-face with burglar in their home

DERRY - Tania Torres returned home from picking up a sick child from school Monday to find her house had been ransacked and a stranger still inside.

“I saw a large unfamiliar man walking outside of my bedroom,” she told FOX25. “Immediately I asked ‘who the heck are you?’”

Police are asking for the public's help to identify the man who broke into Torres' home in broad daylight and escaped through a back door. His face was caught on a home security camera.

Torres' 4-year-old daughter Alice talked about standing just feet away from the burglar.

“He looked like a big tall guy,” Alice said. “His shoes were brown and they were big. And then he scared us and said 'Boo!'”

Torres grabbed her children and put them in the car as the man ran off with laptops and other valuables. She described his car as a tan or silver with a woman waiting in the driver's seat.

Police are hoping to get fingerprints of the gift card the man used to pry open the lock on the back door.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Derry Police Department at (603) 432-6111.
