Derry man sentenced to 7-20 years in prison for deadly hit-and-run DUI accident


DERRY - A man accused of hitting a motorcyclist and leaving the scene has been sentenced to 7-20 years in prison.

Michael Dixon was arrested in May and plead guilty to negligent homicide for the death of Kevin O'Donnell. Dixon admitted to driving erratically on Chester Road on May 7, hitting a motorcycle with Kevin and Heather O'Donnell on it and driving away.

Witnesses told police they saw Dixon leave the scene of the accident and followed him to Juniper Road, later discovered to be his address.

Kevin O'Donnell, who was operating the motorcycle, died as a result of his injuries. Heather O'Donnell suffered serious injuries.

According to court documents, Dixon told police he had been drinking since around noon the day of the accident, which occurred around 7 p.m.

Dixon also plead guilty to aggravated driving under the influence and conduct after an accident.
