Derry firefighters, Fish and Game officer rescue deer from Beaver Pond

DERRY - A deer stuck in the middle of Beaver Pond on the ice was rescued by firefighters on Friday.

A conservation officer with the New Hampshire Fish and Game helped guide the rescue. Firefighters in ice rescue suits and tethered to an inflatable boat used a snare pole to pull the deer to safety. The conservation officer checked out the deer and then released it across the road into a wooded area.

Firefighters would like to remind the public that the ice is thin, and they should not put themselves in danger by trying to rescue animals or pets without the fire department's assistance.
