Death of 4-month-old at a Greenland shelter under investigation

GREENLAND — Authorities are investigating the "untimely death" of a 4-month-old staying at a shelter that serves pregnant and homeless women and their children.

According to Foster's Daily Democrat, the state Attorney General's Office is working with state and local police to investigate the death at the New Generations shelter.

Portsmouth Fire Chief Steven Achilles said they “were requested to send an ambulance to Greenland for a 4-month-old having a medical emergency,” on Friday morning.

Achilles said Portsmouth firefighters assisted the Greenland Fire Department and emergency medical personnel in responding to the scene.

The 4-month-old was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Meg Connelly, the executive director of New Generations shelter, confirmed that firefighters and police responded to the facility Friday morning, but she said she couldn’t provide any details.

“There is an investigation with the Greenland police and the State Police so I can refer you to them,” Connelly told Fosters.
