Rochester father charged after 2-year-old left in locked car
ROCHESTER — Rochester Police responded to Walmart Saturday for a report of a child locked in a vehicle in the parking lot.
Police located the 2-year-old boy crying inside the car. Although the car was locked, officers were able to open the vehicle door as the passenger side door was being held in place with a bungee cord.
The boy's father, Leo Ellis, 35, of Rochester returned to the car and was arrested by police. The investigation revealed Ellis left the 2-year-old in the car for about 40 minutes.
Ellis is facing charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child or Incompetent.
The boy was placed in the care of his mother, who is estranged from Ellis. Ellis was released on $5000 bail.
