Crash on Route 9 in Antrim kills two people from Hillsborough

ANTRIM - A teen driver who lost control of his car on Route 9 hit another car head on, fatally injuring both the driver and the passenger.

Police say Liam P. Flaherty, 18, of Farmington, New York, was heading west around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday when he lost control of his Kia Sorrento, went off the right-hand side of the road then veered back, crossing the center line and hitting a Toyota RAV 4 heading east. The driver of the Toyota was Janet Withington, 67, of Hillsborough and her passenger, James Bouchard, 63, was also from Hillsborough.

Flaherty was not injured but Bouchard was pronounced dead at the scene and Withington was rushed to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where she later died of her injuries.

Police say their initial investigation suggests neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the accident, but the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information related to this accident is asked to contact Trooper Thomas Conlon 603-223-8614 or email at
