Crash into construction zone kills NH man after high-speed police chase

GILFORD — A high speed police chase with a 66-year-old man led to his death on Thursday afternoon.

The man, driving a 2005 Ford Focus, refused to yield in a construction zone on Gilford Ave.

Traveling at a high rate of speed, the driver proceeded through the turn’s reflective barriers, a chain link fence, and over the ensuing embankment before stopping.

The Belmont officer had turned off his emergency lights and siren and discontinued following the Ford Focus approximately one half mile prior to the crash location.

The driver was seriously injured and transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock hospital for treatment - later being pronounced dead.

The crash is under investigation at this time, and the identity of the man will not be released until immediate family is notified.
