CONCORD (AP) — A Concord woman convicted of neglecting three horses at a Northfield farm has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Fifty-nine-year-old Joanie Osgood was sentenced on Tuesday in Concord. She was convicted in the case in 2015, and appealed to Merrimack County Superior Court, where a jury heard the case and found her guilty of misdemeanor animal cruelty charges in May.
Police had reported in 2014 that the horses were severely malnourished, dehydrated and were experiencing muscle atrophy at the property owned by an elderly farmer who has since died. The horses were taken to a rescue facility in June 2014. Prosecutors say the neglect dates back as early as 2011.
Osgood's attorneys plan to appeal her case to the state Supreme Court.
