CONCORD - The city might charge extra for curbside trash pickup soon.
The purple trash bags that are part of Concord's "Pay as You Throw" program could jump 25 percent in July under a current budget proposal.
The smaller bags would cost $1.25 and the larger bags would go up 50 cents to $2.50.
The measure has some residents angry over what they feel amounts to a "garbage tax."
The purple trash bags are sold in several stores throughout the city, but store owners said all the money goes to the city.
The city council is expected to look at the issue at a budget meeting this week.
