Concord psychotherapist charged for fondling young patient

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — A Concord psychotherapist has been charged with fondling his 12-year-old patient while operating his clinic without a license.

The Concord Monitor reports 55-year-old Foad Afshar has been charged with aggravated felonious sexual assault. He also faces two charges of unlawful mental health practice for allegedly operating without a valid license.

Afshar pleaded not guilty and was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail.

Police say the boy had been a patient of Afshar's for about six weeks in 2014 and 2015. The boy told his parents the psychotherapist fondled him after a session in January.

Afshar declined to comment on the case by email Tuesday and referred all questions to his attorney.

His attorney says he has never been the subject of disciplinary action.
