Concord Little League All-Stars win Eastern Regional title
CRANSTON, R.I. - With bases loaded, two outs, two strikes and the Concord team behind by two runs in the bottom of the fifth, a 3-run double from Noah Brent tipped the scales.
The Concord Little League 9/10-year-old All-Stars went on to a 6-5 victory over Holbrook Little League from Jackson N.J. and took the Eastern Regional title, according to the Concord Monitor.
"I was really nervous because I haven't gotten any great hits really all week," Brent told the Monitor. "So I just thought of what my coaches and friends and family told me and I just did that. I had two strikes and I was like, win or lose, I don't really care, I just want to have my head on the ball and hit it hard."
After Brent's hit, Ryan Philbrick finished the tournament with a 1-2-3 sixth inning to complete the victory.
“I was feeling really nervous because they could really hit,” said Philbrick, who pitched all six innings, gave up 10 hits, five earned runs, no walks and struck out four.
New England and the Mid-Atlantic are the only places that play 9/10 regional all-star tournaments, so Concord went as far as it could go.
“Our goal was to be the best team out of New England, and we were thrilled when we did that, and then we felt like this game today was icing on the cake,” Concord Manager Tom Philbrick said.
