Concord fire crews put out three brush fires

CONCORD - Firefighters were battling three brush fires on several acres of forest land on the west side of the city Saturday.

Fire Chief Dan Andrus said the fires were under control by about 3:30 p.m. but firefighters remained on the scene to deal with any hot spots.

He said the first fire was reported just after 1 p.m. from Call Street. Two other fires were reported nearby. Firefighters set up a base camp on Little Pond Road. The three blazes ranged in size from just under half an acre to more than two acres.

Andrus said off-duty firefighters, personnel from the state Division of Forest and Lands and firefighters from nearby towns were called to assist. No structures were endangered and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fires remains under investigation, but the occurrence of three almost simultaneous separate fires indicates human causation.
